Diversity Certification
The university strives to create an inclusive, excellence-driven community. Inclusive excellence is an essential value, a distinction of who we are, and is represented as a core pillar of the university’s strategic plan. Inclusivity and diversity are critical features of a nimble, competitive, and creative workforce, and thus critical to our aspirations for the university community.
The Talent Acquisition Team supports the university’s plan to improve policies and practices to enhance the pipeline and retention of under-represented faculty, staff, and students. To aid in achieving this goal, all candidate pools for full-time or part-time benefits-eligible faculty or staff jobs will need to be certified for diversity at each stage in the interview process including up to the offer stage. These are important steps because the diversity of the applicant pool will be weighed in relation to the known national demographic availability of women and traditionally underrepresented groups in the field and/or discipline.
The purpose of certifying diverse candidate pools is to ensure that sufficient efforts have been made to recruit an applicant pool that either meets or exceeds the general representation of underrepresented minorities within the profession while taking into consideration the goals of the individual school or department. For staff jobs, the VP for Equity and Inclusion, and General Counsel and VP for HR, will certify the pools. For faculty jobs, the VP for Equity and Inclusion, and Provost, will certify the pools.
